Vintage Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles Red Dinner Plate circa 1930s
A DINNER CONVERSATIONALIST'S DREAM PATTERN...
{HISTORY}
We aren't sure if there is a better subject matter for a vintage dinner plate than this one featuring Blarney Castle. Located in Cork, Ireland Blarney Castle, dating to 1200 AD, is home to the famous Blarney kissing stone. According to Irish legend, if you kiss the stone you will be rewarded with the gift of eloquence and charming conversation. Just exactly the thing you need for a memorable dinner party with interesting discourse.
Made by Johnson Brothers in Stoke-on-Trent England in the 1930s, this beautiful red and white dinner plate was part of the Old Britain Castles series which debuted in 1930 and became so popular in the American market, it was continually produced up until 2003.
Available in several other shades including blue, pink, orchid (lavender), black and brown this lovely shade of red looks especially gorgeous when incorporated into Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine's Day tablescapes. With its scalloped edge, decorated rim, and pastoral scene, this plate is a beauty for wall display too, and looks especially stunning when paired with other red and white vintage and antique dishware.
