{HISTORY}

Made in the 1950s by America's most prolific dishware manufacturer, Homer Laughlin, these white floral rimmed soup bowls in the Emerald pattern offer all the elegance and simplicity of a timeless dish.  Acting as both distributors and decorators, Century Service Corporation, purchased blank dishware from Homer Laughlin and then added their own decorative designs. 

Based in Newell, West Virginia H.L. designed thousands and thousands of dish patterns throughout the 20th century that were made to withstand the test of time and taste. Century Service Corporation was based in Alliance, Ohio, and bought dishes from many of the larger potteries operating in the area.  

In the 1950s, a very similar pattern called Empire Green was also released by Homer Laughlin and distributed by Century Service Corporation.  That pattern featured a green band around the rim and a pink rose in the center. Fun for mix and match collecting, this white flower here in the Emerald bowls, with its hint of pink blush at the tips of each petal, coordinates beautifully with the Empire pattern as well as two other Homer Laughlin designs that debuted in the 1950s... the Nassau pattern and the Windsor Rose pattern. All three designs feature beautiful white florals with glossy dark green leaves signifying that this was not only a popular theme of midcentury tablescapes but also a popular color palette. 

Whether paired with other patterns or displayed by themselves, this set of four bowls is a lovely nod to garden parties, outdoor dining, and all those festive warm weather mealtimes that capture the essence of summer and the beauty of the season. 

With their gold edge and pretty green rim  (a shade that lies somewhere on the color scale between a muted teal and an earthy sea green), it's just the right neutral shade to match a bevy of complementary colors.  Let the easy breezy summer dining season begin!

{CONDITION}

In gorgeous vintage condition. There are no chips or cracks and the center floral designs are crisp and bright. The gold rim of each bowl is complete (no rub marks) and very shiny.
