Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust

{HISTORY}

Can cheer be found in the beauty of a bowl? You bet! In this case, cheerfullness can be found four times over thanks to these 1930s-era vintage berry bowls made by Universal Potteries in Cambridge Ohio.

Even though they were only in business for 20 years from 1934-1954, Universal Potteries was able to make quite a collection of highly functional yet also very pretty dishware. In their Camwood Ivory series, many of the pieces were ovenproof, complimented an entire range of dishware, and produced a whole beautiful bevy of colorful flower garden patterns.

These berry bowls carried on that same colorful tradition.  In the Camwod Ivory style and with their oven-proof possibilities, they feature lazy ropes of flowers around the rim that are so cheerful they'll make any mealtime a garden delight no matter what the season. With their blue stripe, orange-ish red flowers, and black details, we estimate that they date to the 1930s, a time when these colors and design features were popular in dish patterns

Berry bowls back in the early 20th century were used for mostly dessert purposes or side dishes and held things like ice cream, fruit cocktail, compotes and of course berries. Of all the different vintage dishware pieces they are one of our most favorite shapes to collect in modern day. Their small size is so useful for a variety of kitchen tasks and serving possibilities. We especially love to use them as ingredient holders while prepping meals.
