Vintage Universal Chrysanthemum Vegetable Bowl circa 1937-1956
90 years later, this bowl still reflects the heart of the kitchen...
{HISTORY}
Longtime symbols of love, hope and abundance, it's no wonder chrysanthemum flowers are the beautiful subjects of kitchen dishware. Isn't that what cooking is all about?! Made by Universal Potteries in Cambridge, Ohio, this vintage vegetable bowl was part of their oven proof series which means it could go from fridge to oven to table in one fell swoop looking pretty all along the way.
There was a version of this bowl that came with a cover as well but this is the coverless version intended for large heaping portions of vegetables. Imagine a big steamy mound of mashed potatoes, or a bright green salad toppling with tomatoes, or green beans stacked so high you could feed the neighborhood.
Although the pattern name and date of manufacture is unknown, we believe this bowl dates to the 1930s when blue stripes and orange flowers were at the height of their popularity when it came to dish pattern details.
With its low-slung, graceful shape and wide diameter, we recommend not using this bowl as an ovenware server (due to a small chip) but instead as a fruit bowl on the counter, a gathering basket in the garden or a centerpiece display on the table. In any of these ways, she'll help light up the whole kitchen with beauty and joy.
{SPECIAL FEATURES}

{CONDITION}
In lovely vintage condition. There are no cracks but there is one small pencil point size chip on the interior along with crazing and staining. There is also one small chip on the exterior about an inch below the rim that measures 1/8th inch. You'll also notice on the bottom of the bowl three indention marks - those are not chips, but marks made during the manufacturing process when the bowl rested in the kiln. These are very common on vintage dishware and do not affect the composition of the bowl in any way. Please see photos.
{SIZE}
This bowl measures 9.25" inches (diameter) x 3.25" inches (height) and weighs just over 2lbs.
