Vintage 1960s Maryland Cook - Maryland's Way - The Hammond Harwood House Cook Book - 1966 Edition
Dedicated to the generations of Maryland cooks who since 1634 have blended the fruits of bay, field and forest into Maryland's way...
{HISTORY}
A fundraiser for the Hammond Harwood House in Annapolis, Maryland, this 1960s cookbook features recipes (or receipts, as they like to call them! ) from centuries of Maryland cooks. Combing through archive letters, family narratives, history books, and the heirloom kitchens of local residents, the Hammond Howard House Association compiled this gorgeous book as a love story to their great state of Maryland.
In addition to recipes, this book includes information on Maryland's provenance by highlighting significant historic houses, influential residents, notes on the agricultural landscape and snippets of letters, memos, and menus focused around family, friends, and community gatherings. A true gem of a historic cookbook, each recipe contains source notes or mentions from where it came, adding a sense of intimacy to the entire book.
Recipes range from the 17th century to the 20th century. A majority of the antique ones have been modified to include modern cooking preparations and techniques while leaving the original vibrancy and history of the recipe intact.
