Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home. Edith Sitwell

{HISTORY}

First founded in 1865, Wood & Sons pottery was the crown jewel of Burslem, England for 130 years. Started by Thomas Francis Wood,  who also served as the mayor of Burslem, the pottery was run by generations of the Wood family, who were not only known for their business savvy but also for their exquisite, high-quality craftsmanship and their ability to attract and nurture the careers of their talented artisans. Famous for their antique Toby Jugs as well as a dish line designed by English ceramic artist, Susie Cooper beginning in the 1930s, Wood & Sons, not only made dishes for the consumer market but also for the hotel industry.

This dinner plate in the Wood & Sons Dorest pattern was made between the 1950s-1960s. It features intricate designs of handpainted transferware that include florals, bold graphics, and an embossed rim. Because it was hand-engraved under the glaze, this plate has retained a beautiful shiny appearance with crisp lines and bright colors. Shades include chocolate, nutmeg, lime green, butter, and raspberry - a color palette and design that reflects its antique heritage.
