 {HISTORY}

Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, one of Homer Laughlin's most popular dish designs was the Georgian Eggshell. A body and a design style - not a pattern name - HL's Georgian Eggshell dishes came in complete sets featuring a variety of different patterns and colors. This pair is from the Countess pattern and was made in 1947. It features an embossed dotted and dashed edge and pink floral sprays around the rim, each enhanced with mustard-colored stripes. 

At first glance, you might think these Regency hues might only be appropriate for spring and summer tables, but like little magicians, the colors in these bowls turn out to coordinate with all sorts of shades throughout the year. Pair with marigold, goldenrod and pumpkin shades in fall, sage and grey in winter, pink and yellow in spring and mint and raspberry in summer and you have a year-round color palette right at your fingertips. Imagine warm bowls of pumpkin soup, a hearty scoop of raspberry cobbler, a fresh summer salad, or a comforting chicken stew all served pretty and delicious with the help of these two charmers. 

The floral swags are made up of yellow and pink cabbage roses woven together with pine boughs, making these two a lovely choice for holiday dinners, especially in homes that feature pastel Christmas decorations. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we were especially impressed by how great they looked with a variety of other floral dishes offering very carefree mix and match appeal and easy-breezy decorating options.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. There are no chips or cracks. The colors are bright and crisp.  There are small faint light grey rub marks on the back of each bowl - a commonplace sighting on many vintage dishes indicating that they were stacked and stored inside each other for many years.

Each bowl measures 8.25" inches (diameter) x 1.5' inches (height)  and weighs 11 oz.
