A lot was happening in Japan following WWII and the occupation of the country by U.S. Allies. Most importantly, Japanese women won the right to vote...

{HISTORY}

It is exciting to think that perhaps this diminutive demitasse cup saw some exciting conversations as it made its way from the Royal Sealy porcelain factory in Japan to America. Made just after WWII, between the years 1945-1952, this cup and saucer were stamped with the Occupied Japan mark, a mandatory governmental law put in place for exports leaving the country. At this time in history, Japan needed to regain control of its economy and one way to do that quickly was to export items made by talented Japanese craftsman. Toys, dishware and figurines were some of the most popular items sent abroad.

It's fun to think that the first owner of this cup was as equally charmed by its beauty as we are here in the shop now. Perfectly dainty, with it's delicate porcelain construction, gold floral swags and swirls, and it's celery green bands, this charmer surely must have been a conversation starter over a strong cup of coffee or espresso. We like to imagine that it entertained a group of ladies at luncheon who were just as passionate about the newly liberated voting powers of Japan's women, as they were about exercising their own voices and opinions when it came to politics in America. A good cup of coffee (in a pretty cup!) has a wonderful way of getting everyone excited!
