First published in 1972 by the editorial staff of Yankee magazine, recipes from this regional cookbook span 35 years in the magazine’s culinary archives.

Gathered from past contest winners, food columns, and articles featured in Yankee from the 1940s - 1970s, each recipe comes from the kitchen of a bonafide New Englander, whether they were a life-long resident, a new transplant, or a local living abroad. Some are family favorites passed down through generations, others are modern 20th century reinterpretations of traditional dishes rooted in the home countries of founding families.  Many come with a little snippet of a story about how they relate to this beautiful corner of the country.

Tested and tweaked to perfection by members of Yankee’s staff, the 1970s team was spearheaded by Sara B. B. Stamm (1916-2002), noted cook, food writer, editor and lifelong New Englander by way of Vermont and New Hampshire. 

Reprinted several times throughout the 1970s, this is the 1977 edition containing the original dust jacket featuring a painting by celebrated Rhode Island artist Maxwell Mays (1918-2009) titled “Be Back In  A Minute.”
