Vintage Tulip Time Dinner Plate by Johnson Bros circa 1962-1977
... a fetching blue print of Dutch girls dancing among the tulips... (from a 1964 newspaper ad for Tulip Time dinnerware)
{HISTORY}
Made by Johnson Bros in England between 1962-1977, this vintage blue and white dinner plate features the Tulip Time pattern - a pastoral Dutch scene of flowers, windmills, sailboats and dancing maidens all centered around a picturesque harbor.
Johnson Bros had quite the talent for finely detailed dinnerware. This pattern does not disappoint when it comes to scenic beauty. In addition to the idyllic setting, there is an array of floral bouquets and swirl stripe embossing around the rim that mirrors the rippling of water.
One of the things that was most exciting about this Tulip Time pattern when it debuted in the 1960s, aprt from its pretty design, was the fact that it was dishwasher safe. Utilizing a new method of manufacture, heavily decorated patterns like this one were guaranteed to stay crisp, clear and intact throughout their lifetime. Thanks to that special treatment, this server has traveled the past sixty years beautifully.
When paired with other blue and white dishware, this plate is especially eye-catching, offering a cohesive color palette yet lots of visual variety in subject matter.
