{HISTORY}

Scottsdale - it's both an artistic city in Arizona and the pattern name of this vintage set of restaurant ware salad plates. Made by Syracuse China from 1989-1991, these plates feature the Syralite body style, which is a thinner, more delicate version of restaurant ware designed specifically for dining establishments that were interested in a lighter weight, more refined, and elegant dish service set yet could still hold up the hustle bustle environments of busy restaurant life.

With its pale peach and soft white color palette and the art deco embossing, this set of six plates emotes resort-style glamour and hospitality. The overall composition brings to mind fountains and palm trees, desert sunrises, beach cabana shapes, and swimsuit stripes  - the perfect flourish for a table set for summer soirees. 

Debuting in 1968, Syracuse China's Syralite design was especially enticing for tray service among the waitstaff since it was much lighter than the bulkier bodies of traditional restaurant ware. This is an especially interesting bit of information when it comes to the evolution of restaurant ware as it helps illuminate the type of dining establishments that this pattern and shape would have been a part of. Most probably, this set was not found serving guests in a casual coffee shop or a busy luchonette but instead graced the tables of something a touch more formal, like a country club, a hotel dining room, a golf resort, or a health spa where leisure, relaxation, and elegant surroundings topped the menu and the moment.
