Vintage Sunset Stitchery - Babes in the Wood pattern circa 1979 - Sunset Designs #2445
Going to the woods is going home... John Muir
In 1979, this is how you relaxed from the stresses and pressures of the day - with your Sunset Stitchery crewelwork threads and patterns. Eventually, they would yield a charming, colorful landscape like this one.
This is the Babes in the Wood pattern #2445, beautifully executed on a large piece of homespun fabric. Featuring seven woodland creatures it includes a deer, owl, squirrel, raccoon, chipmunk, and two rabbits set among tree branches, leaves, ferns, and flowers. Such an idyllic scene!
Many stitchers once they were finished, hung their needlework in a frame to admire for years to come. That was the case with this one. It can also be incorporated into additional sewing projects like a pretty pillow for the kitchen breakfast nook or the front piece of a market bag when you go foraging for food yourself.
- Bright, colorful design
- Beautifully executed
- Large size
In gorgeous condition. Since this needlework spent time inside a frame for a long time, there is a slight yellowing of the cloth due to age. You can see the contrast difference in the border closest to the raccoon in the listing photos. Please note, this needlework has not been cleaned. Dry cleaning is recommended as the yarns may not be colorfast and therefore may bleed using standard laundering techniques. Having said that, there are no spots, or stains, or holes in this fabric, and all the stitches are very tight.
