Vintage Sheer Half Apron with Red and Blue Ric Rac Stripes circa 1940s
{HISTORY}
This vintage apron with its simple yet stylish red and blue ric rac stripes reminds us, here in the Vintage Kitchen of all that World War II patriotism when victory gardens were all the rage, fundraisers for the war supplies were a regular occurrence, and frugality in the kitchen was the name of the game.
As a hostess apron, it is fun to imagine that this apron made an appearance at community bake sales, dance halls, and donation drives all in service of raising money for the war effort and helping the troops any way ladies on the homefront could.
Sheer and delicate, this apron is in great shape considering its 80 years old, but it does need a small repair to keep it in good shape for another 80 years. As you'll see from the photos, one of the apron ties is pulling apart from the waist seam. All it needs to fix that is just a little tucking, folding, and restitching to securely attach it back to the waist section.
So cute for patriotic celebrations like Memorial Day and 4th of July, and also a lovely nostalgic display piece, this apron with its Americana spirit is ready to party the day away through this century and into the next.
