Vintage Round Floral & Filigree Chop Plate Cake Platter
{HISTORY}
With a bouquet that is as bright and light as a summer day, this large round vintage floral serving plate is just the charmer you need to serve an array of get-together foods.
Technically called a chop plate, its original intended use was for serving large pieces of meat, food hot off the grill and heartier portions. But referring to it solely as a chop plate, so unromantically named, does a vast disservice to all its other possible uses too.
Around here, we prefer to think of plates of this size (12.5" inches in diameter) as handy helpers when it comes to serving shareable foods like salad for the table, hors d'ouvres for the party, desserts for the reception, and drinks during cocktail hour.
Part serving tray, part platter, part plate, this one is a beauty from all directions. Featuring a center bouquet of pastel blue, pink, and yellow cottage flowers in shades of ballet, butter, and morning glory, it's also adorned with big gold floral filigree flowers around the edge. Oftentimes, vintage gold filigree can be small, dainty, and lace-like in pattern, but not here. This gold garden is as big and billowy as its colorful counterpart at center.
Although unmarked as to maker or manufacturer, we suspect this server was made around the 1950s-1960s era by either Taylor Smith Taylor or Salem as they both manufactured dishware with the same center floral bouquet.
When not in use, this one is also a beauty for display. The shimmery filigree catches the light along with the shiny glaze in the most reflective of ways, and the color palette creates quite a springboard for mix-and-match styles and complimentary color palettes.

{CONDITION}
In lovely vintage condition. This plate contains no cracks, chips or staining. There is the slightest of wear on a few areas of the gold filigree but it's not especially noticeable thanks to the business of the pattern. There is a small amount of utensil marks on the green leaf next to the blue daisy-like flower in the center. Please see photos.
