We dedicate this to the Great American Mister... who stands, chef's cap on head, fork in hand, on terrace or back porch, in patio or backyard, anywhere in the land watching his roast turning on the spit... (Introduction to Outdoor Cooking, McCall's Cook Book, 1963)

{HISTORY}

Big time barbecue get-togethers call for big time platters. This 1950's era rooster is here to help. Designed by midcentury artist Marcelline Stoyke, this 19" inch red, black and gold metal tray was originally intended for the outdoor grillers and barbecue aficionados. Making outdoor entertaining a breeze, this big guy of a serving piece can accommodate all sorts of items thanks to its hefty construction and ample size. Pile it high with hot dogs, hamburgers, condiments, grill tools, drinks or dishware and you can easily transport everything from inside that you'll need outside.

It also makes a great serving platter or makeshift camping tabletop for outdoor diners. But there are other possibilities in the way of use too. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we'd like this guy adorning the wall of a chicken coop or a big barn where roosters rule the day and watch over the flock. Its one of those pieces that instantly adds personality to any place you choose to display it. And whose to say your chickens wouldn't appreciate a little vintage art in their space as well?! Whimsicality comes in all shapes and sizes. In this case it's big and round!

Marcelline designed many decorative items for a a number of well-known brands during the 20th century including Sears, Melmac, Federal Glassware and Pickard China. Her drawings reflected her playful spirit and often included illustrations of her own home interiors and people in her family. Her tray designs are one of the most loved items by collectors for both their usefulness and their graphic appeal.
