{HISTORY}

Made in England during the 1980s and 1990s, Pimpernel's English Rose pattern featured a bouquet of creamy white roses with nectarine centers and pine and leafy green leaves. Bordered by gold stripes, these cork-backed coasters add an instant garden to any tabletop with their classic beauty and elegant color palette. 

A beloved British tradition, Pimpernel coasters were first created in 1933 by Will George as a solution to protect whiskey bottles from breakage during shipping. Innovation turned that initial protective padding into high-quality coasters, table mats and trays that have graced tabletops and beverage trays for close to a century.  At some point in the company's early history, Margaret Atkinson lent artistic sensibility to the process by hand-printing designs to create Pimpernel pieces that were not only durable and practical in composition but also beautiful in aesthetic. 

In order to protect surfaces, delicate linens, and wood veneers, and also hold up to the hustle bustle of lively home life, Pimpernel continues to create these dependable long-lasting table pieces that have held up day after day, party after party for decades without losing their color or smooth matte finish. An example of their expert attention to detail lies in this vintage set of seven coasters, which were made  during the 1980s and 1990s and still look practically brand-new 40 years later.

Made with melamine and UV- stable pigments and backed with durable cork, Pimpernel coasters are impervious to stains and spills and easily wipe clean.
