With German roots and American soil a family business begins in 1811...

{HISTORY}

In American kitchens since the early 19th century, Pfaltzgraff  Pottery was started by German immigrants Johann George Pfaltzgraff and his wife Elenora in York County, PA. Using local red clay, also known as redware, Pfaltzgraff made functional pieces for area farm kitchens - things likes plates and pitchers for serving needs and crocks for food storage and preservation.

Johann and Elenora became the parents of ten children, and as the family grew, so did the pottery business, thanks to the help and skill of their five sons who were each trained in the pottery trade. Each of the sons brought their own style and design aesthetic to the Pfaltzgraff brand, but they were determined to not stray far from the simple, rustic, functional serviceware that their father established. With new investments in manufacturing tools and equipment, the Pfatlzgraff sons and future generations were able to turn a small family run business into an internationally recognized pottery line that is still going strong today.

This vintage Pfatgraff mixing bowl is from the America pattern and was made between 1983 and 1989. With its classic stripes and warm pumpkin hue, it has a timeless quality to it. Simple yet elegant, it is an easy companion piece suitable to many other vintage styles. Mixing bowls for the America pattern line are hard to find these days. We like to think it's because no one can bear to part with their own!
