Vintage Pennsylvania Dutch Amish Farm Couple Bowl circa 1950's
A happy home is more than a roof over your head, it's a foundation under your feet. Amish Proverb
Hailing from the 1950's, this whimsical Amish inspired bowl features whimsical scenes of farming and industry, Pennsylvania Dutch style. Starting with the farm couple at the center of the ball nestled between cornstalks, flowers, pumpkins, lettuce and squash as you turn the bowl you'll see a little story emerge that involves a chicken weather vane, a chess piece, a blacksmith, a house and a decorative clock. Is it the story of this farm couple's life? Maybe! Could you make up a zillion different stories about this scene? Absolutely!
Once part of a complete line of dishware, this hard-to-find pattern and bowl is an interesting shape and size, making it perfect for a host of activities. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we think it is especially fun for entertaining as a holder for dips, candy, nuts, olives or other little nibbles. A conversation starter for sure, it always looks interesting no matter how full the bowl is, thanks to the placement of the retro graphics around the sides.
Unmarked as to maker or manufacturer, we have yet to identify where this was made and by whom, but clearly they had a good sense of whimsicality and a creative spirit. Just exactly the kind of fun that makes a home a happy one!
