Vintage Paper Mache Floral Coasters Made in Japan - Set of 8
{HISTORY}
Made between the 1940s and 1960s, these Japanese floral coasters were part of the popular paper mache serving ware trend that adorned bridge tables, dotted beverage carts, and decorated side tables in homes across midcentury America.
This set contains eight orange coasters with pink, blue, and purple flowers and intentional crazing lines added for an old-world aesthetic. Originally, these eight would have come in their own matching storage box, but the two components have separated somewhere along life's journey.
Shellaced for protective measure and a shiny appearance, these coasters are strong and sturdy, so much so that they almost feel like they are made of thin pieces of wood rather than compressed paper pulp and glue.
Bright and beautiful, they add instant color to a tabletop or a tray, protecting surfaces from water rings and drippy drinks. They also make great little holders for craft projects, jewelry making, seed sorting, or any type of activity that requires a temporary holder for tiny bits and bobs.
