Vintage Nickel Plated Brass Deer Figurine with Etched Design
I was already imagining us walking along together. I would have fed you by hand your favorite herbs... Jules Renard, The Stag
{HISTORY}
The quiet spirits of the woods, deer have long represented family, leadership, gracefulness and sociability. This handsome deer with his very long antlers and decorative design is made of nickel plated brass, which gives him a wonderful aesthetic that combines shiny smooth silver, aged brass and a rough etched floral design along his back and sides. Although he contains no makers marks, he was most likely made in India, in the style of the chital deer which has a spotted body and long multi-tined antlers.
Weighing in at 2 lbs, he's a hefty sculpture, ideal for table centerpieces, holiday mantel decorations and candlelight dinner parties. Interestingly, his antlers can be unscrewed from his head, possibly a convenience for shipping purposes when he was exported from India. And his legs are long and delicate providing ample room for floral displays or Christmas greenery in and around him.
