Vintage Nanco Dutch Shoe Planter Vase with Red Tulip Design
{HISTORY}
If your kitchen needs a burst of color then this is the planter for you!
Made in Japan for Nancy Sales Company, also known as Nanco, this Dutch-style ceramic shoe features bright red and orange tulips dancing all around the sides. Accommodating as far as styling goes, it can be hung like a wall pocket - an ideal way to display succulents or air plants - or it can sit flat on a shelf allowing garden herbs or house plants to grow sky-high. Either way this planter offers tons of personality and a big dose of cheer.
It's no wonder though, Nanco has been delighting collectors since the 1930s as one of the few manufacturers of snow globes. Providing equal parts whimsy with functionality, this shoe offers the same sort of enchantment that a snow globe conjures up with each shake.
A particularly fun display piece at Christmastime, Dutch shoes have a long-standing tradition of being left by a window sill or fireplace for Sinterklaas to fill. Keep your eye out. He might surprise you this year with a plant or a seed packet tucked inside to keep your gardening heart happy and hopeful during the winter months.
