Vintage Miniature Green Art Deco Pottery Vase circa 1920s-1930s
{HISTORY}
A sea green shade, a bulbous tear-drop-style shape, and art deco detailing make this vintage vase one of the prettiest miniatures we've seen so far. Standing just 3" inches tall, we love both its functional utilitarianism and also its balanced design, making it both a working vase and a decorative art piece too.
Back in the 1920s and 1930s, miniature vases were especially prized among horticulture enthusiasts, especially those who entered garden club contests with their best bloom of the season which was typically displayed in a simple bud vase. A mini work of nature and human endeavor, entrants were in those days often judged not only on the blooms themselves but also on the overall presentation of the flower in relation to its vase. That meant that the two had to be equally harmonious and complimentary to each other without one overshadowing the other.
Mini vases of this size were also perfectly suited for tray service, desk, and window sill display, and decorating any spot in the house that could use a little interesting detail.
Unmarked as to maker, this one could have been the prize of Shawnee Pottery or Haeger or Weller. It might have come in other colors too and joined a collection of other similar art deco-inspired designs in mini form and fashion.
A hard-to-find-style now, we are left to guess at its origin story, but that makes it great fun too. Was it once in the collection of a prize-winning rose grower determined to hold the title at the local flower show? Or did it sit on the desk of a botanical illustrator who plucked and placed a fresh flower every day for inspiration and study? Or maybe it cheered the morning on a breakfast tray for a romantic sweetheart just rousing from sleep.
Magic things come from mini delights. This one is no exception.
