Vintage Louis Sherry Chocolate Tin
Louis Sherry...when it's a matter of good taste. (Early 20th-century advertisement)
{HISTORY}
Founded in 1881, Louis Sherry Chocolates have been synonymous with New York elegance, luxury, and entrepreneurial spirit for over 140 years. Born into an impoverished family in Vermont, Louis made his way to New York City in the 1860s as a teenager where he worked in the hotel and restaurant industry before starting his own confection shop in the early 1880s. From day one, Louis focused on quality in ingredients, packaging design, and presentation and quickly attracted much acclaim for his sweet treat offerings.
A favorite among his retail customers were his assorted chocolate boxes hand-packaged in pretty lavender tins that were perfect for gifting and also reuse. A luxury in and of themselves, these tins became a symbol of refined taste and a world-class shopping experience that still remains true to this day.
Although the tins have featured a multitude of different designs throughout the past two centuries, this vintage tin features their classic design that first debuted on opening day of the store. Featuring bouquets of lavender flowers and gold trim, it's the brand's iconic box that still delights chocolate lovers to this day. This tin made by Canco (The American Can Company) was made during the 20th century.
