Like vintage luggage, vintage picnic baskets are packed full of individual charm and character, entirely unique to themselves. Classic in all the best ways, this picknicker features a traditional basketweave style with movable handles, a solid lid, and a brass latch. Well built, with a lacquered shine and sturdy construction, its large size offers ample room for all sorts of foodstuffs, beverages, and tableware accessories. The flat lid acts like an impromptu tabletop when you are ready to dine.

The brass latch, most likely not original to the basket, but added by a previous owner, keeps the lid firmly closed while transporting. That extra bit of security has possibly also aided in helping this vintage carrier keep its shape. Oftentimes,  picnic baskets can get warped or bowed with age, but this one still retains a very uniform shape. 

With the ability to tote multiple bottles of wine, full-size dinner plates, a picnic blanket, and glassware of varying sizes, this basket holds lots of potential when it comes to packing it efficiently. Weighing in at 4lbs, it is sturdy enough to hold heavier picnic items like watermelon, glass bottles, and a cutting board without worry that the basketweave will be compromised or the lovely prepared meal lost to a faulty bottom.

{CONDITION}

In beautiful vintage condition, this basket is in great shape with strong, sturdy handles and a heavy lid. The hinges that join the lid to the basket are strong and secure. The brass latch operates easily. The basketweave is tight and secure on all sides and contains no rips or chipped areas. The bottom of the basket on the exterior bears some light scuff marks, as expected with age and use. Please see photos
