{HISTORY}

This vintage landscape painting is a survivor of Hurricane Katrina. Upon returning home from the mandatory evacuation of a small bay town in Mississippi, its previous owner found only two things on the lot where her house once stood... a cast iron pot buried halfway in the mud, and this painting laying near the spot where her front door should have welcomed her. Of all the possessions to weather a storm, the previous owner never would have believed that one would be this fragile canvas, lighter than air and so delicate in design.  Because of that extraordinary circumstance, this painting became a symbol of strength and comfort in humankind's ability to weather storms both literal and figurative. It's sentimental and emotional and grand in the way only a piece of art can be. 

Painted by the previous owner's friend, who was not a professional artist but a passion seeker bent on expressing creative emotion, this painting carries with it a spirit of positivity. You'll notice the center sun-filled tree acts like a bright light leading others from the dark. And that it's gorgeous palette of earthy greens and yellows is both soothing and inspiring. This piece is destined for a certain collector and a certain space. Maybe it's one that weathered a similar storm like Katrina or for someone who needs a daily reminder that difficult situations yield beautiful landscapes. This painting could have easily been obliterated in a horrific storm. But it wasn't. And that's important.

{CONDITION}

Incredibly, despite the fact that it went through a major natural disaster this painting bears no scratches or dents in the canvas. There are mud marks on the bottom edges where the canvas was stretched around the frame. These marks were left intentionally as a reminder of what the painting had gone through. Also, the backside of the canvas contains mud and dirt marks and splatters. Please see photos for those condition marks.

{ABOUT HURRICANE KATRINA}

In August of 2005, Hurricane Katrina was the largest hurricane ever to make landfall in the United States and one of the five deadliest hurricanes ever recorded. Areas affected reached from the Bahamas to the mainland US including all coastal states between Texas and Florida.Winds were sustained at over 175 miles an hour and over 800,000 homes were either damaged or destroyed by its effects. These statistics make it seem incredible that this painting survived such an experience.
