Meet Marisol!

She's a vintage hand-painted lady head bank in the style of Italian-American-Mexican artist Gemma Taccogna (1923-2007). Unlike Gemma's work, which was mostly created in Mexico, this lady head bank was made in Japan sometime around the 1950s-1970s.

As they say, imitation is the finest form of flattery; such is the case with Marisol and her sculptural shape. In addition to being a cute decor piece for the kitchen, she also acts as your friendly financial advisor by encouraging you to save those ducats for some culinary fun later down the road.

Maybe you want to buy a really expensive ingredient for a new recipe you've been dying to try, or you want to surprise your best pal with reservations at a fancy restaurant or splurge on a decadent bottle of bubbly. Mirasol will help keep you on track.  Behind those rosy cheeks and those red lips, there's a savvy coin counter ready to help you save and celebrate something big and grand.

While Marisol may not be a true Gemma original, she's got a lot going for her in the similarity department without the more expensive price tag. Gemma at the start of her career as a young working artist, began creating large head sculptures similar to Marisol as display models for a hatmaker in New York City. Almost instantly, she was recognized for her artistic talents and her interesting, colorful lady heads. Once her career took off and she eventually gained popularity around the world, that's when the look-alikes started circulating. Although she doesn't retain any maker's marks, she does still retain her original " Made in Japan” sticker on the bottom of the bank.

Unknown maker info aside, Mirasol is extra fun because she is functional too, not just decorative. Medium in size with a top-loading slot big enough to accommodate both coins and folded bills and a rubber stopper on the bottom, she'll quickly become your favorite little cash stash holder, all while adding character to your kitchen and whimsy to your day.

{CONDITION}

In beautiful vintage condition, this vintage lady head contains little bit of chippiness on her nose, cheek and chin, as well as on the bottom rim at the base, and at the very tippy top of her headpiece. Each mark adds authentic character - sights often seen on lady heads of this age and material. The colors are vibrant, and the rubber stopper fits securely in the base.
