JUST IN TIME TO HELP YOU SET A REALLY HANDSOME TRADITIONAL TABLE FOR THE HOLIDAY... (FROM A 1965 ADVERTISEMENT FOR JOHNSON BROS. HARVEST TIME DINNERWARE SETS)

{HISTORY}

Made by Johnson Brothers in Staffordshire, England, between the 1950s and 1970s, this beautiful fruit-filled platter features the Harvest Time pattern. Hand-colored in shades of spring green, pink, cherry, and chocolate, these shades blend so well with all the colors of fall and look gorgeous when paired with other similar patterns for the Thanksgiving table.

As one of the most successful English potteries, in business from 1890 to 2015, Johnson Brothers specialized in exporting dishware to the American market. Exceptionally good at tapping into the American mindset, they  followed the buying trends, styles, and preferences of American consumers, thus creating a niche for themselves among English potteries who were mostly focused on the British retail market.

The cozy seasonality of the Harvest Time pattern was so appealing to shoppers when it debuted in department stores and china shops across the country in 1953, that it became a popular choice for tableware stretching the entirety of the Autumn season leading up to the big turkey day itself.

Looking just as festive perched on an open shelf as it will serving something delicious on the table, this platter offers lots of possibility when it comes to decorative display and cozy autumn cooking. Artistic, colorful, and beautifully designed, plump apples and grapes casually drape their way across this platter, accentuating the ruffled edge, making this beauty a work of art just as much as a useful server. Colors include lime green, cranberry, pale pink, taupe, and espresso.
