 A bird can carry all the sky in that little button glowing... Harold Monro

{HISTORY}

Made just after World War II, this vintage Japanese porcelain teacup and saucer features handpainted birds and flowers with a grey lusterware exterior, a gold bamboo-style handle, and a pearlized lusterware interior.

So delicate, we suspect the bird might be a parrot and the branches cherry blossoms newly budding for spring. Complimenting the gold handle, the bird sits inside a medallion of gold and peach lusterware like a glamorous portrait. Teacups made in Japan during this era of the 1940s-1950s were exotic gifts brought home to America, each one unique thanks to the handpainted designs and skill of the artist who decorated them.

Colorful and shiny in all its iridescent glory , this cup contains a unique color palette for certain in that the grey lusterware has a touch of green in it making it almost a soft shade of sage. Other colors include peach, tangerine, tomato red, white, black, gold, ice pink, peach and emerald green.
