Vintage Japanese Lustreware Porcelain Bowl with Floral Center - Petite Shabby Chic Serving Bowl
It takes a kind of shabby arrogance to survive in our time, and a fairly romantic nature to want to. Edgar Friedenberg
{HISTORY}
This vintage porcelain bowl carries just the right amount of shabbiness to make it even more beautiful than if it was brand new and had just rolled out of the pottery plant. Made in Japan sometime around the mid-20th century, it originally contained a thick band of peach (also known as orange) lustreware around the inner rim and gold edging along the outer rim. Both elements were meant to draw your eye inward like a telescope towards the pastel-shaded cabbage rose bouquet in the center.
Now authentically worn, the bands have faded over time but have left behind just enough shimmer and glimmer to bring a little bit of dazzling light to the table. The cabbage rose bouquet is a bevy of soft pastel colors that include watermelon pink, spring green, pastel tangerine, peach and pale ketchup with a faint dose of pastel blue and beige mixed in.
A statement piece, as well as a functional serving bowl, this porcelain beauty with its fluted edge (like a pie crust!), retains all the elegance of the past century while adding a bit of shabby chic charm to your modern space.
