Vintage Homer Laughlin Kitchen Kraft Pie Dish with Cottage House Floral Pattern circa 1937-1960s
{HISTORY}
Featuring the cutest little garden cottage, this vintage Homer Laughlin pie plate was part of H.L's Kitchen Kraft series which debuted in 1937 and was in production until the 1960s.
Working in tandem with Homer Laughlin's Ovenware series, Kitchen Kraft pieces were simple-shaped alternatives of oven-to-tableware that was both pretty and functional in the kitchen. Featuring colorful decals designed to work in mix-and-match fashion with other Homer Laughlin dinnerware sets, Kitchen Kraft pieces were designed to be attractive at stages of food prep from cabinet display to cooking to serving.
Containing a bevy of bright colors, a red stripe and spring-like floral bouquets in addition to the cute cottage scene, we suspect that this pattern was made on the earlier end of the production scale possibly dating to the 1930s/1940s era. It's a hard-to-find pattern nowadays that carries lots of retro charm with both handpainted elements and transferware.
In the 1930s and 1940s, you could pick up a Kitchen Kraft pie plate for anywhere from $0.59 to $1.25 (an equivalent of $10-$20.00 today). A real worker in the kitchen, pie plates were useful for a wide variety of meals from quiche to casseroles to pies and other assorted desserts.
A lovely example of early 20th-century kitchenware, these hard-to-find serving pieces offer a colorful glimpse into the world of vintage baking, 1930s style. Rare pieces like this are important to collect since they represent both kitchen aesthetics of the 1930s and 1940s as well as a glimpse into understanding how we once we cooked and with what.

{CONDITION}
In lovely vintage condition, this pie plate has definitely seen some baking adventures in its day. Exactly what you might expect from a fully functional 90-year-old kitchen worker, there is mild staining around the rim and bottom of the dish as well as a small surface chip near the cottage. The tulip transferware bouquet contains a little bit of wear. Please see photos of each bouquet. Given the staining and the chip, you may not want to use this piece for baking anymore, but it still makes a lovely kitchen display piece hanging on a wall or included in a cupboard or shelf collection.
