{HISTORY}

Featuring a pretty little house with shade trees, flower gardens, floral bouquets, and those three magical words... home sweet home, this vintage embroidery sampler is a delight in detail and color. 

Containing five different styles of embroidery stitchwork - french knots, cross stitch,  detached chain stitch, split stitch and stem stitch - at first glance you'd think this is a simple design. But on close inspection, you'll notice the variety of techniques and the skill required to produce such a pretty piece.

Unlike a painter who paints a portrait or a sculptor who fashions a statue, the work of needlecrafters hardly ever gets attributed even though much time and dedication was taken to produce such a wonderful visual image.  That's such a shame.  With not a thread out of place nor a design element gone astray, this sewer was really talented.

At one point in this sampler's life, it was professionally framed, as it has been secured to foam board and studded with tiny nails all the way around the edge to ensure that the linen lays flat and taut. Who embroidered it? And when? And where was it originally hung? We'll never know these little mysteries. That's oaky though. The fact that it was uniquely handstitched leads us to cherish it all the more. 

It's fun to imagine all the home sweet homes where this sampler would have been displayed over the decades. Now it's waiting to be a part of yours.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. There is some yellowing at the edges due to age, and a small light spot above the "e" in home. All the colors are bright and crisp with not a pulled thread or a stitch out of place.
