Vintage Herring's Hunt Dinner Plate - Full Cry Fox Hunt Scene Equestrian Decor
If you are tired of style you are tired of life. Downton Abbey
There's not a much more stylish scene in the golden brown landscape of Autumn than a fox hunt party dressed to the nines in their top hats and their red coats accompanied by shiny smooth horses and a handsome pack of dogs. We've seem real-life fox hunts happen in the Pennsylvania countryside and it is quite a spectacle to behold. This vintage plate made by Churchill (a pottery that has been in operation since 1795) gathers all the most beautiful elements of the experience and brings it home to your table.
Made in England in the 1980's, it features a lively equestrian scene from Herring's Hunt based on original hand engravings for Churchill's Heritage collection. With a raised scalloped rim and fluted edge, top hats, flowers, riding crops and horns dance around the rim adding glamorous and sophisticated detail to one of the oldest sporting events in the world.
Originally part of a series featuring different aspects of the hunt, Churchill produced these as dinner plates. They were so pretty, well made and evocative of an English equestrian aesthetic many buyers chose to collect them one by one and display on the wall like art. Such was the case with this plate, which means it is in absolutely perfect condition with no utensil marks, no chips and no cracks.
