Vintage Hankscraft Ceramic Egg Cups circa 1940s-1950s - Set of Two
{HISTORY}
A favorite kitchen appliance from the 1920s-1960s, Hankscraft Electric Egg Cooker was a marvel of the 20th century culinary experience, Using just a few tablespoons of water and an electrical current, these small, electric dome shaped counter-top cookers poached, boiled, and scrambled eggs in just seconds. Using an innovative design invented by American engineer, Marshall Hanks (1875-1952) in Madison, Wisconsin, the electric cooker not only saved time in the kitchen but it also offered consistent results day in and day out.
Available in an array of styles and colors as the decades progressed, Hankscraft Electric Egg Cookers were available as a standalone appliance or as a set combined with four matching egg cups. This pair of egg cupsfeatured here, came with the Hankscraft cooker model 794-B made during the 1940s and 1950s. The striped embossing on the egg cups matched the striped embossing on that model's ceramic egg cooker base, which was also outfitted with a chrome lid and a matching ceramic knob.
Heavy and substantial, these egg cups are made of thick clay and are a pale ivory in color. With their classic shape, simple stripes, and go with anything color palette, they easily coordinate with vintage dishes from any decade of the 20th century and look especially wonderful alongside vintage restaurant ware.
A spring board to other innovations, Marshall Hanks went on to invent many other helpful household appliances including vaporizers, humidifiers, and bottle warmers. He passed away not long after these egg cups were made, but his company, Hankscraft is still going strong today.
