I know that everything essential and great originated from the fact that the human being had a homeland and was rooted in tradition. Martin Heidegger

{HISTORY}

Made in Germany, this vintage 1920s-era serving bowl is a gorgeous study in color and artistic detail. The central focal point is the yellow rose bouquet, bright and billowy with golden petals and bright green leaves. Around the rim of the bowl, the color palette is toned down a bit to soft shades of celery and peach with a shimmery lustreware glaze and airbrushed oak leaves, suggesting a gorgeous transition between summer and fall. An embossed edge with dots and decorative swirls completes the aesthetic and ensures dynamic design whether the bowl is full to the brim with food or empty.

For centuries, Germany has made some of the most exquisite porcelain dishware in the world. Full of unique details and interesting color arrangements, there designs are often an eclectic assortment of applications and techniques that set them apart from other porcelain makers.  Not often stamped with the pottery's mark, it can be difficult to attribute each piece to a particular maker or trace its lineage in years of manufacture.

This bowl contains the simple "Germany" mark denoting that it was made in Germany and also contains the number seven. The number could refer to many things - a factory mark, a pattern mark, a plant mark or even a date code reference, but since no other info is provided we are left to wonder at its mysterious origins.

We estimate it was made sometime during the 1920s when this airbrush style was popular  - an avant-garde form of expression meant to shake things up a bit in retaliation to older more traditional porcelain patterns.
