Oh the mysteries of a small storage jar.

This one could have been used for anything practically anywhere in the house. But mostly it resembles vintage French powder jars, which means it may have been used on a vanity table or a dressing room as part of some fashionable 20th-century woman's grooming routine. But then again maybe not.

Perhaps it was a trinket box used for odds and ends - sewing pins, stamps, jewelry, spare change, cotton balls, sugar cubes. Anything is possible when it comes to a useful container like this.

Since it is unmarked, we have to speculate at quite a few things like the purpose of it and then also the date of manufacture. If we had to guess in that department, we'd estimate this porcelain piece to date to about the 1920s-1940s, maybe even earlier based on color, pattern and design. 

Since we are not stuffed into any box predetermined by a specific use with this one, we'd advocate for taking this little darling into the kitchen. Set it on a shelf by the sink to hold your jewelry while you cook, or set it on the bar cart to hold toothpicks or wine charms or any other little niffities that compliment a good cocktail and an organized bartender.  Or place it in the cupboard to store small catch-all items that you don't want to lose. Or  set it on the snack tray to use as a vessel for your favorite sea salt or sugar or mustard or any other little delight that makes the day more delicious.  With a pattern that coordinates with all sorts of vintage and antique dishware, it floats effortlessly around the room or on the table.

We especially love the shiny gold knob that resembles the size and shape of a summer berry and the hidden blossom that appears on the inside of the dish.

In gorgeous vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks or stains. The colors are bright and vibrant.
