In French, there is an old expression, la patte, meaning the artist's touch, his personal style, "his paw." Marcel Duchamp

{HISTORY}

Isn't it wonderful, that word la patte that Marcel Duchamp speaks of?! That's exactly the perfect way to describe vintage embroidery. When sewers emblazon an everyday piece of cloth with a bit of threading flair, they turn it into not only an interesting piece of art but also a unique statement of personal style.

The sewer of these two linens, in particular, favored a feminine, delicate style. Both are similar yet slightly different. Each cloth features a unique, eye-catching design with a myriad of different types of embroidery stitching and a matching pastel color palette. Containing florals and geometric lines this set most likely was made between 1920s-1940s. Traveling through two centuries, these linens have traveled around the country but still retain their lovely bright white color and sturdy yet soft fabric.

Here In The Vintage Kitchen, we like to use vintage fingertip towels for petite drying projects like glassware and teacups since the linen fabric leaves behind no lint. They also are a lovely size for serving and display.
