{HISTORY}

With his side-eye glance, billowing pants, and a pill box style hat this little character is all charm when it comes to discussing the most irresistible thing in life - cookies!

Made by American Bisque (1919-1982) in Williamstown, West Virginia, this vintage cookie jar features a blond-haired Dutch boy in a buttoned jacket holding a sailboat.  A popular theme amongst cookie jar manufacturers of the mid-20th century, this Dutch boy was painted using the cold press style which involved applying acrylic paint over the glaze to color the jar.

Not a technique that held up well over time, cold press paint was vulnerable to scratching, peeling, and rubbing as it could easily be removed when dusted, washed or run through the dishwasher. That being said, because each cold press painted cookie jar would wear in unusual ways depending on its treatment at home, each of these very vintage jars are now completely unique in appearance.

Luckily our cute little sailboat-loving boy here aged in the most handsome of ways. He retained his ruby-red lips, his flirty glance, his blonde locks, and just enough detail in his clothing to suggest that he's a savvy dresser. At first glance, you might mistake his coat for a traditional chef's coat, but it's all a part of his nautical attire if you take a closer look.

Perhaps this whole ensemble of authentic wear and tear, charm and delight, age and aesthetic will inspire the baker in you and you'll whip up something wonderful to fill the belly of your wonderful jar.
