It was strange how the dullest party could be enjoyed because there was one person present whose eyes could be met for the fraction of a second, in wordless appreciation of a joke unshared by others... Georgette Heyer

{HISTORY}

Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we love a pretty piece of stemware. We adore it not only for its physical beauty but also for the secret stories they hold on to. All those merrymakers of the past. All those parties and get-togethers. All those toasts and seductions and celebrations. All that spirited life. All that, here now, in a glass (or two) decades later, still sparkling with excitement.

It doesn't matter if you serve your wine, Italian style, in a short tumbler or easy-going in an old jelly glass or most luxurious in the finest Irish Waterford crystal. Each piece of vintage stemware comes with its own spirit telling all the parties of the past. Like a goodtime stamp of approval, vintage glassware comes to us in modern-day life with a celebratory seal of approval ready to get on with and continue the joyful side of life.

These two cut glass examples are a stylish pair. Featuring a pretty starburst design and an elegant stem, they were handmade and bear a slight difference in the detail. One is just a tiny bit shorter than the other - the difference of 1/8th of an inch in height. Isn't that a wonder!

Without marks to distinguish exactly who made them, we can only focus on their size and shape. Most likely these two were intended for martinis with their open fluted cup and accommodating well of a bowl. But here in the Vintage Kitchen, we've never favored buying glassware for specific drinks. Fill this one with a sparkly Cava, a lavender hinted gimlet, a salty margarita or a bosomy red wine and you'll have incorporated this glass into your life and your drinks of choice instead of the other way around.
