Vintage Copper Tile with Floral Relief Design
Through love all that is bitter will be sweet, through love all that is copper will be gold... Rumi
{HISTORY}
Oh this vintage copper tile is a beauty in design! Petite in size, measuring 4" inches x 4" inches, this was once intended for display on a wall in a kitchen or on a hearth, as one of many that created a floral bouquet fit for an indoor garden lover's heart.
Made from a sheet of thin copper wrapped around a plastic tile mold, the floral relief was rubbed into the copper giving it a stamped feel and a two-dimensional appearance. Over time, it has aged to a dark brown with hints of copper peaking through along the edges of petals and leaves.
Now since there is just one, this tile makes a pretty statement piece for wall decoration or bookshelf styling, as a cupboard detail, or a piece of pantry art. Featuring a big magnolia-style flower with daisies and a poppy to complete the bouquet, it casts a slightly reflective glow at a distance but looks most striking when admired up close.
Unsigned with no manufacturer's mark to shed further information, we estimate this tile to date to the 1970s.
