Vintage Cloth Chicken Bun Warmer Egg Cozy - Henny Penny Style Handmade circa 1970s
Throughout history, bun warmers have come in all shapes and sizes from sterling silver to aluminum, glass to plastic, and everything in between, but none is cuter than the fabric chicken version.
Made to sit on top of a basket or over the top of a basket, depending on your style preference, this 1970s era whimsical big bird has wing flaps that lift up for easy access to a warm bun or two. Usually perched in the center of the table, with moveable wing flaps on both sides, this type of bun warmer was not on functional but also fun by bringing lots of personality to the table's decor.
Almost always handmade, they contained a little bit of their sewer's personality in the shape and style of the felt comb, the color of the button eyes and of course the fabric selection itself. This chicken features a vintage calico fabric with brown and blue flowers, brown ricrac and quilted threading.
Cute for farmhouse kitchen display, party decor or photo props, this pretty Henny Penny comes with the small basket pictured in the photos.

In lovely vintage condition. This is a very well-made quilted chicken with lots of attention to detail. All the stitches are strong with no holes or pulled threads. The elastic is tight and stretchy. There is one light spot on the underside of the elastic at bottom and three light spots near the wing flaps - two are on one side and there is one on the other. Thanks to the color palette of the fabric these are barely visible. Also, the red felt in the chicken's comb is faded slightly on one side. Please see photos. The lightweight basket is in great shape. Although small-seeming for its size, the chicken sits very well inside it, but if you place the chicken over the basket like a cover, it is a little awkward since the basket seems a bit too small in that scenario. We think it fits best with the chicken sitting on the basket like a nest.
This chicken when sitting in her basket measures 12"inches (height) x 13" inches (width). Together the two pieces weigh 5oz.
So cute for the farmhouse kitchen, this chicken looks great with this vintage red-striped bowl.
