HAVING A LITTLE FUN AT MY WORK DOESN'T MAKE ME ANY LESS OF AN ARTIST. CLARICE CLIFF

{HISTORY}

Full of exotic details and big blousy florals, there's something of interest to gaze at in every part of this chocolate and mocha-shaded dinner plate.

Made in England between the 1940s and 1950s, by noteworthy British ceramic artist Clarice Cliff (1899-1972), this plate features the Tonquin pattern - a gorgeous pastoral transferware scene complete with a house, a lake, a sailboat, swans and a bevy of flowers and trees. The Tonquin pattern came in a multitude of different colors including, red, blue, black, plum, and this warm, rich chocolate brown shade.

Clarice Cliff (1899-1972) was a legend in the pottery industry from the 1920s to the 1960s. Designing hundreds of eclectic pieces that were admired by collectors the world over, she was considered one of the most remarkable ceramic artists of the 20th century. Most admired for her whimsical art deco style designs, Clarice's work is revered not only for her artistic merit but also for her passion to find beauty in shapes, colors and designs that were considered very unusual in relation to other kitchenwares produced during her lifetime.

{CONDITION}

In gorgeous condition. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There's a tiny tea-colored spot about the size of pin head in the bottom right corner of the plate near the floral bouquet. This was a manufacturing flaw as it is completely glazed over and doesn't affect the composition of the plate in any way.  Please see photos
