Vintage Canonsburg Pottery Dinner Plates with Red Band Rim & Gold Filigree - Set of Three
Canonsburg Pottery Company, famous for dinnerware the world over! (from a 1951 ad campaign)
{HISTORY}
Deep red bands accented with gold filigree and a colorful floral bouquet make this trio of vintage dinnerplates quite an eye-catching set. Made by Canonsburg Poettery in the mid-20th century, they feature the Keystone shape which is flower petal-like in design.
In business from the early 1900s to the late 1970s, Canonsburg Pottery was family-run during its entire run and was known for its innovative manufacturing techniques. Always staying on top of the latest dishware processes and applications to ensure quality products, they navigated seven decades of tricky business climates through world wars and the Great Depression but eventually filed bankruptcy after competition from foreign markets proved too costly.
These three plates are just lovely for the winter months, Valentine's Day and the holiday season as their lacy gold filigree design around the rim shimmers beautifully in candlelight. The center floral bouquet with its bright spring colors, makes this pattern, especially fresh and fun when it comes to decorating all sorts of interesting and dynamic tablescapes.
Several other pottery companies produced similar red-banded dinnerware during the mid-20th century which leads us to believe that this was a trend made popular by one pottery and then copied by others with the addition or extraction of some minor details to set them apart. It's difficult to know which pottery produced this elegant style to begin with, but the floral bouquet in this Canonsburg pattern is quite unique from the other rose-filled bouquets made by competitors.
