So fun, this mini Frozen Charlotte Penny Doll is the cutest little gal in the kitchen! With her little belly, her hands clasped up by her chest, her silver-streaked hair, and a dab of orange flower just above her ear, she's a sweet little character steeped in Victorian folklore.

Based on the story of a little girl named Charlotte who froze to death one winter because she didn't want to listen to her mother and put a coat on over her pretty party dress, miniature Frozen Charlotte novelty dolls like this little lady became popular talismans during the mid-1800s thru the 1920s.  They also were known as Penny Dolls because they were inexpensive, often costing just one cent.

Popular for playtime, dollhouse display, and storytelling Frozen Charlotte Penny Dolls have the tendency to pop up in unusual places.  

We once knew a woman who collected them to give away to her friends who struggled with of inner turmoils. She believed that penny dolls were symbols of self-care and kindness and when one popped up in your life it was a sign to be gentler to yourself. She displayed her own penny doll on a shelf in the kitchen next to her fridge as a reminder to be kind to her body by feeding it healthy foods. Whenever she came in contact with anyone who struggled with insecurity, she tucked a penny doll in their pocket. She would tell the new owner to treat the little doll right, which was her way of saying to treat yourself right. We just love stories (and symbols) like that just as much we love this little doll's 'Here I Am, As I Am" expression. Take it or leave it. 

This 2" inch penny doll was made in Japan of bisque porcelain and features a hollow center. She does not stand up on her own, we had to make a little wire stand for her for the photo, but since she's so light-weight you can easily tack her down with Guerlilla Moulding Putty or place her over a nail secured to a board and she'll happily stand all day long.

in lovely vintage condition. No chips or cracks. The silver hair paint and orange flower paint have worn in some spots.
