Vintage Baltimore Oriole Ceramic Tile Trivet - Botanical Bird Portrait
I am but a small-winged bird, but I will conquer the world... Sidney Lanier
Lovers of fruit, symbols of joy and a vibrant dose of sunshine yellow in the springtime landscape, Baltimore Orioles are one of the prettiest birds in the North American garden. Throughout history, they have come to represent resourcefulness, nurturing and dedication - three words that also happen to be indicative of good cooking and good kitchens.
This vintage ceramic tile trivet features the Baltimore Oriole in all its beauty, tucked between tree branches, perhaps getting ready to belt out one of its beautiful songs. With multi-purpose in mind, this tile acts as a trivet for hot pans and dishes, a spoon rest while cooking and also a piece of decorative wall art when not pressed into service. Around here, we just love helpful little workers like this.
Unmarked as to maker or manufacturer, we'd estimate this tile to date to the 1960s-1970s era and may have been a trip-takers souvenir purchased during a magical time spent in Maryland.
