Vintage Autumn Floral Cake Plate with Gold Rim and Two Handles
Even just a special dessert makes the simplest meal an occasion. Better Homes & Gardens Holiday Cook Book, 1959
From fruit and nut laced to tiered and frosted, nothing warms up the season like a festive cake served on a beautifully decorated plate. This vintage one favors cakes of all colors thanks to its autumn-hued color palette. Some cake plates only look attractive with a few types (or colors!) of desserts, but not this beauty here. Featuring the shades of mocha, chocolate, tangerine and rusty red it is this ideal combination of neutrals that looks best with most baked goods. Everything from pumpkin pie to brownies, cinnamon buns to sugar cookies, coffee cake to tea biscuits appear both appetizing and elegant thanks to the gold embellishments on the rim, the center florals and the two handled shape. Unmarked as to maker or manufacturer, we are uncertain of where this one lands in the kitchen of history but it has enjoyed a few adventures along the way. We like to imagine that it was the star of the show at a weekly coffee club where friends gathered to enjoy good food and good times.
