{HISTORY}

First published in 1961, the Better Homes & Gardens sewing book has been teaching fabric and style enthusiasts how to make custom clothes and textiles for over half a century. Long before the internet, if you wanted to make some curtains for your kitchen, an apron for yourself or some leisure clothes for your family, you learned how to do it by studying a book like this one - a thoroughly informative guide detailing the art of craft and design.

It was written with the help of Lucille Roberts, a famous American sewing icon, who grew up during the Great Depression when she first started making her own clothes at home out of necessity. As she grew into adulthood and a career in the home fashion industry, Lucille toured the country enthusiastically teaching men, women and young adults how to make their own clothes. Quickly, she became a trusted authority on sewing and design.  Eventually, she would expand her sewing knowledge into the worlds of print media and television with her own sewing column and her own sewing show.

When this book debuted it was such a helpful sewing companion that it quickly grew into a beloved bible of the craft and was revised several times over succeeding decades to reflect changes in style trends for both home and wardrobe. This edition was published in 1973, a revision of the 1970 edition.

Containing over 350 pages, it retains classic styles of the '60s as far as clothing and a slightly more modern vibe found in home decor interiors of the 1970s.
