{HISTORY}

Homer Laughlin dishware is always a favorite. Not only are they America's most prolific dishware maker, but they are also one of the oldest continuously operating potteries in the country. First founded by brothers, Homer and Shakespeare Laughlin, in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1871 - HL grew into a worldwide brand that has decorated kitchens and tables for over 145 years.

As you can imagine, a century and a half of dish manufacture results in an immense variety of patterns and designs. This cup and saucer was made in January 1974 and features that classic red and white color combination of Homer Laughlin's American Rose pattern.

With the supportive easy-to-grab rolled edge underneath the rim of the saucer, a hallmark necessity for busy restaurants, this pair was part of the hustle-bustle environment encountered at energetic eateries where the coffee was always on, the servers were always in motion and the chatter was non-stop.

Marked on the back with Homer Laughlin's first wave of restaurant ware known as Best China, the American Rose pattern remained a popular choice through the 2000s and beyond.

Made during the coldest part of the year, it's fun to imagine this cup and saucer sitting pretty in the window of a cozy restaurant while a snow storm swirls outside or rain beats hard against the panes. Fast forward 50 years later and bottomless cups of coffee, endless servings of tea, maybe even a cup of hot chocolate or two still warm the spirit and soothe the senses when matched with winter weather and this dynamic duo. Always just right for the mood and the moment, vintage restaurant ware is so magical that way,
