Vintage 1960s White Floral Restaurant Ware Chop Plate - Park Lane by Syracuse circa 1965
{HISTORY}
Featuring pretty white flowers on bright green stems, this vintage restaurant ware chop plate is all ready for summer soirees and outdoor entertaining. Made by Syracuse China in 1965, this pattern was called Park Lane, no doubt an idyllic nod to tree-lined streets and garden-lined boulevards.
Appealing to a lot of different types of dining venues from city hotels to country clubs and restaurants, it is not known which specific establishment this large platter was connected to, but we do know that the Park Lane pattern was in service in at least one restaurant on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the 1960s. That gives you an example of one such place where this plate might have served up something summery hot off the grill... perhaps seared steaks, grilled chicken breasts or herb-stuffed pork chops.
Chop plates do not have the prettiest name but since they were intended for serving larger, heavier portions of meat, fish, and poultry their name easily alluded to their function and all that potential and possibility of big platters and big foods.
Nowadays, thanks to their round shape and large size, chop plates also make great cake plates, drink trays and hors d'oeuvres platters. When not in service, they also looked lovely propped up on a shelf where they add instant beauty to the kitchen, bar cart or dining area.
