A SIMPLE, DIGNIFIED PATTERN...DURABLE AND HANDSOME... (FROM A 1960S AD CAMPAIGN FOR AD WASHING DETERGENT FEATURING MAYTIME DISH ADD-INS)

{HISTORY}

Can two potteries share one pattern line? You bet! This is the interesting situation that belongs to the Royal Maytime pattern, a pale turquoise and grey floral line of dishes that's an equally lovely design for both winter and summer. Made by Homer Laughlin and Royal Stetson during the 1960s, these two potteries shared in the making of the pieces and the pattern.

Royal Stetson, founded in 1946, was not a maker of the actual dishware - they purchased blanks from other potteries and then added their own decals to the dishes before sending them out the door for sale with their RS stamp on back. Homer Laughlin, founded in 1873, made dishes and designed patterns, so it is understandable how a copasetic relationship between the two potteries developed. One had designs, one had blanks, and the two met in the middle with the shared Maytime pattern.

Whether the dishes were stamped on back with the Homer Laughlin mark or the Royal Stetson mark, the unifying factor between all the dishes was that they were all marked with the Royal Maytime pattern name.

The fun in sharing didn't stop at the maker's production process either. The Maytime pattern could be found in giveaways tucked inside packages of domestic products like detergent, cereal and other household staples one cup or one saucer or one bowl at a time. This was a unique way to cross-promote products for companies while building up a complete dishware set for home cooks. Sharing is fun in more ways than one!

This set of four teacups features the Maytime pattern on front, a blank back and cute little ear-shaped handles. Pretty for display and for use, we love these cups for their year-round appeal. Whether you live at the beach and favor seaside colors in your kitchen or you live in a snowy enclave where greys and blues light up your winter landscape, these four will fit right into your decor.
