Memory is the treasurer and guardian of all things. Cicero

{HISTORY}

Decorating dinner tables since 1965, this pair of red and white Memory Lane dinner plates has added color, and style, and stories to mealtimes for six decades.  Made by Royal China in Sebring Oho in 1965, these plates feature a beautiful pastoral country house scene complete with a farmer, a dog, cows, a pond and a cute stone cottage surrounded by trees. Equally decorative, the rim features a ring of oak leaves and acorns, making this set especially pretty for Autumn tablescapes.

Memory Lane was a part of a series made by Royal that featured Currier and Ives-style scenes that represented a nostalgic slice of America. Incredibly popular, these dishes were sold through retail stores as well as mail-order catalogs and came in extensive sets featuring all sorts of accessories beyond basic place settings.

Indicative of Royal China's reputation for creating pretty designs and feminine styles from the very beginning, the pottery was first established in 1930 in Sebring, Ohio. Quickly becoming trendsetters in the industry, not only did they invent a revolutionary stamping machine, but they also boasted a female founder, a true rarity in the dishware manufacturing industry.

In the beginning, years, while the Great Depression was challenging businesses across the country, Royal China came up with an inventive plan to hire workers on a delayed payment system so that the pottery could establish a strong foundation without the expense of immediate overhead costs.  This unorthodox practice was intended to give the pottery a leg up in the face of competition and if done right would secure future success and growth for all employees. Luckily, this combination of creative management and faithful employees proved to be a great success.  Eventually, Royal China became the third-largest dishware producer in the country.
